David B. Barkley, WWI Medal of Honor and the dog park

Private Barkley posthumously received his Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in WWI in France.

He was the second person to receive the honor of laying in state at the Alamo. In Texas, this is a very high honor to receive.

On January 10, 1941, US Army installation Camp Barkeley was named after him. There was a clericial error in spelling his last name is the reason why the military installation name doesn't match his last name.

This doggy park group in town wanted a dog park and the raised funds for it. They name the dog park: Camp Barkeley Dog Park. The local newspaper to the ground breaking story is here.

Is it just me, but reducing the Medal of Honor recipient name to people following their dogs with little bags is just plain wrong!

Thank goodness Sonia, I was trying to figure out how I was going to be diplomatic here on your pages. I should have known you didn't like dogs crapping all over a war hero's legacy either. We are on the same page !!!

Odie, This is the nicely worded version.

I am appalled! MOH means much, how wrong! It is considered proper respect (Although not prescribed)for a superior officer to salute a lower ranking soldier wearing a Medal of Honor.

The WWII Carrier at Patriot's Point has a MOH Museum on her, totally sad! I will leave it at that. DO NOT get me started on a rant! No one would like the "flame on" that would follow!

Hi Supi, naming a dog park after this Hero is in very poor taste.
Leave it to the leftie politicians to mess everything up.
