Fun in Big D

My friend and her husband belong to Antique Firetruck Preservation Club. The Club had a meeting in Dallas. I drove up to Dallas to spend the day with them. My friend was excited to take me to the Texas Fire Museum. to see the trucks and enjoy the club's fried chicken dinner. The men were telling me that I can't miss this fantastic fried chicken dinner for $5. I take it they were excited about having an unhealthy chicken dinner because it tastes better than a healthy chicken dinner.

I like this truck. All the shiny chrome has this truck saying "look at me".

My friend is trying to convince me I should take up painting Gold Leafing on fire trucks. I did have a nice small chat with one of the men that does Gold Leafing. He was trying encourage me to take it up because it is fast becoming a lost art. You can see the fantastic gold leafing art work on this fire truck.
This is one of the fire trucks that arrived that will start the restoration process at this museum. There's a lot of work to get this truck back to its original beauty.
This is the replica of the 1963 Dallas Police squad to honor police officer J. D. Tippet who was slain by Lee Harvey Oswald.  Here's a news article about it.
The water pump has an engine but this old fire truck was powered by horses.

BBQ

My husband is having diabetic delivery meal diet melt down. He does their plan for his diabetes control. If I fix him the meals to specification of his diabetic diet specification, I am accused of trying to starve him with puny portions. When he receives his delivery meals, he doesn't feel that way. He was getting tired of their food big time. So talking about Mrs. O short rib dinner, he was hungry for bbq.  We went to this BBQ place. My husband was hungry for a full meal deal so we ordered a feast. The feast is served on a garbage can lid. Too funny!

Mrs. O at Kelly Liken Restaurant news little missing info....

Do you know what kind of meat Mrs. O ate? It's the other red meat. It's Bison! Bison is delicious. I am very fond of Bison. Much to my husband's horror I serve it more often than he would like. Why are people omitting from the story it is bison? Are they trying to get us to believe she ate pork!

This is a quick quote from Kelly Liken's menu describing the rib dinner.
"Ancho Chili Braised Bison Short Rib
wilted Tuscan kale, hominy and wild mushroom sauté, braising liquor"

You can look over Vail Colorado Kelly Liken's Restaurant menu here.

This is one restaurant I would definitely have a hard time trying to decide what to order and pray the menu doesn't have prices printed on it so I could order without sticker shock! Sticker shock can happen when the bill arrives. Outside of having no desire to visit Vail, Co, it doesn't look like I will be eating there.

New phrases learned this week.

Walker, Texas Wisconsin Ranger
Fleebagger

Where's Mr. O?

I found this news article from The Colorado Independent about Michelle's vacation in Vail. One comment is accusing the author of plagiarism and tells the thief he owes a by-line and a check to the original writer. Prez didn't travel with the Mrs and children on this President's Holiday weekend. The article didn't say what the Mr. is up to for the 3 day weekend. I worry when those 2 are separated. It is smoke and mirrors time.

What is interesting is the writer wrote that Al Gore was in Aspen on Friday. So Al get the billing where's he is at but not Mr. O. Even Dan Qualye, Dick Cheney, Bush 1, Bush 2 and Biden names are thrown into to the article to distract the reader from asking "Where's the Mr.?".

The reporters are busy racing to Wisconsin instead of covering her Vail trip. The students are equating this to the 60's protests and don't even know why they are there. Students get a clue why you are there. Nitwits if you want the full '60's experience you gotta leave home and travel by thumbing your way across America. Remember, the 60's travelers lived on love, not money.

Michelle isn't very concern about the students of Wisconsin that are not getting their hot lunches and breakfast from schools that closed down so they could show the Wisconsin Taxpayers their temper tantrum. She should be telling the fleebaggers to get back to work so the children can eat. Michelle, does the thought ever occur to you that children eating 10 school meals a week might be part of the cause of childhood obesity? A lot of those meals sound like fast food paradise meals.

Who was that? Oh That's family. They walk among you.

The other day my son went to Big D. On his way back he decided to visit his Aunt and Uncle for an hour or so before heading back home. I asked him how they are. Well, aunt was in the hospital in the December. Oh. Did you get to see your Uncle? My son said he saw him on his way out.

I called up Auntie for find out the scoop. Then I mentioned my son said he got to see his uncle briefly. A little giggle happen. Yeah, when uncle walked inside, auntie asked if he saw his nephew. Uncle said, "That was nephew? I thought that was a physical therapist".

Snow and base shopping...

Yesterday was the first day we could drive around without looking like we are on a theme park bumper car ride. The roads were wet and some spots still had ice or snow patches. When we drove on base it was like another world. The roads were dried off.  It was like God doesn't allow snow to fall on the military base roads. A pretty good compliment to the work crew, I dare say.  The commissary parking lot still had some snow. I don't think I have ever seen so many cars parked in this commissary parking lot before. We had to circling around a few times to find a spot to park which is really unheard of here. This isn't McChord, Ft. Lewis, Randolph, Travis or Ft. Sam Houston. We felt like we were at the big bases for a change. We had to wait in line to check out. Most of the customers had fun reminiscing about other bases they were stationed.  Someone in line mentioned all the stores in town were crowded too so they thought shopping here would be less crowded.

I saw Sticks, our local super Green Bay Packers fan shopping. Yes, he was wearing his Green Bay Packers coat. I didn't tell him my son was going to a Superbowl Steelers fan party.

Young Son BPP Saga Continues

Last Sunday, my husband thought having my son's favorite meat, smoked pork chops, would be a great Sunday dinner while my son does his laundry. Dad's pork chop ended up going on my son's plate. He is missing his mom's cooking and dad sacrifice his pork chop. My son even popped the pork fat into his mouth and said it was good. The old puppy looked shocked there was no scraps for her. My son hinted that mac and cheese would be a great side dish to his favorite meat.

My son had to remote in via computer into his work because the snow and ice. What in the heck is this all about? When he lived here, he would drive his car no matter what the weather was and tell the old geezers its ok. I suspect he figured out how many hours he needs to work to pay for the deductible of a car accident.

His fabulous converted horse and carriage apartment, apparently the pipes are not insulated. The true meaning of frozen pipes are now in his vocabulary. No running water. He has to rough it to the landlord house to take his bath, get water to drink and use the bathroom. Since he hasn't had time to stock up food for eating in his first month of living in BPP, he has been huffing on foot it to Allsups fine dining gas station establishment. He calls them to make sure they are still open. I bet Allsups now knows him by name now.

All in all, he is having the time of life in his BPP.

White winged Dove

I thought I would include a video of white winged dove. We have plenty of these birds in Texas.

Most of the white winged doves in our neck of mesquites do not migrate south for the winter here. This morning I saw a dove on the ground, umm, er, snow in the backyard. My old dog went outside. The bird didn't fly away so assumed it met its death. My dog went over to the bird to sniff it then she went about her business of checking out the rest of the yard. My dog plopped down in her favorite place to watch the world go by.

I'm watching this bird from my art studio window. I realize the bird's head is looking around. The bird obviously has spent many summer hours with my dog for the bird to know she is safe from my dog attacking. My dog doesn't have one ounce of bird dog in her and lets the birds hop around while she is outside.

The bird has flown off now.

Texas Snow

My old puppy is pretending she is a Siberian Husky. Mom, come out and play in the snow.
Right now it is 12F with 26 mph gusts. I went to the wind chill calculator: -8F.This is a day when you wished math formulas are wrong.
