Something is missing in the news.

Is any one else wondering what does Rey Decerega look like? Gee, I thought one picture would have surfaced.

Fancy Strawberries..

My husband put his Fancy Strawberry Preserves out on the table for the biscuits.
My son asked "what makes this preserve fancy."
Husband said, "It is fancy strawberries."
"What's fancy about them?" my son asked.
"It is the kind of strawberry," my husband told him.
My son was quiet for a minute or two and replied to his dad, "You made this up."
  My husband said "no."
My son said "if I googled fancy strawberry I bet I wouldn't find a type of strawberry called Fancy."  My son paused again then gave a huge hearty laugh, "If you give me 10 minutes, I can put on Wikipedia my dad made this up."

Happy Thanksgiving

Embarkation of the Pilgrims

"Protestant pilgrims are shown on the deck of the ship Speedwell before their departure for the New World from Delft Haven, Holland, on July 22, 1620. William Brewster, holding the Bible, and pastor John Robinson lead Governor Carver, William Bradford, Miles Standish, and their families in prayer. The prominence of women and children suggests the importance of the family in the community. At the left side of the painting is a rainbow, which symbolizes hope and divine protection.
Weir (1803–1890) had studied art in Italy and taught art at the military academy at West Point.
The dimensions of this oil painting on canvas are 548 cm x 365 cm (216 inches x 144 inches; 18 feet x 12 feet)" from Wikimedia Commons.

I always like to give a moment of thought to the pilgrims arriving to the new world and their daunting task before them after arriving to the New World. I have given much thought to their first year of living in the New World and their struggles to survive must have been like.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Parking Spaces..... Interesting....

My husband and I have been noticing that parking spaces at small mall strips are almost filled to capacity around our town.
Tonight, we noticed half the shops were closed for the night or out of business. The 4 other businesses that were open had one or two customers inside. We can approximate how many employees are working at each shop.  The cars parked exceeds workers and customers at this dinky mall center.

About a month ago, I had to get up at dark thirty to make an appointment. This gym I thought was doing a tremendous business all this time was closed. The parking lot was filled with cars. Where are the exercisers? Man, did they shrink that much? I doubt it.

Why are all these cars here? Hiding from the repo man?  Is the owner of the buildings renting out parking spaces? If so, to whom? Are these cars that should have been smashed for the cash for "clunkies".

So does your town has this strange phenomenon going on?

Bugged out my eyes this morning

I was watching Miss Houdini in the backyard this morning to make sure she didn't bust up her e-collar again. Yeah, the e-collar is in sad shape now. The e-collar is now patched up with duct tape. This blue and yellow thing started to rise in the neighbor's yard like an extra smurfy blue loaf of bread.  The neighbors had a party for their kids today.

For those of you that have a wicked sense of humor, you might want to stick a little Cornish game hen in the turkey. Act very shocked  that you purchased a pregnant turkey when you start to carve the turkey up. See how quick on the draw the kids are to point out that turkeys lay eggs.

Life in Texas....

My dog managed to chew off her cyst last week. We took her to the vet to get fixed up. She is wearing a Elizabethan collar to prevent any further damage. She is a little Houdini of getting out of her e-collar. So I tied her E-collar to her collar with gauze. I made huge gauze bows. My son curiosity finally got the best of him tonight to ask, "Mom, why did you tie the dog's collar with toilet paper?" It's not toilet paper. Until her wound heals, we are calling her a bull in china store. She is knocking everything over.

My angelfish in the 10 gallon tank laid eggs. I didn't think too much about it since the eggs have never hatched. The other fish usually dined on angelfish caviar. The angels are patrolling the tank the way you would want our borders patrolled. The angels even have the snails quivering in corners of the tank in fear of being attacked. The eggs hatched. The fry is now free swimming. The parents are going nuts every time a fry separates out of the group for exploration. I don't think my herding dog has the precision of herding as these fish do. There are approximately 150 little itty bitty fry swimming around. When I went to the pet store to find fry food, I saw this super huge aquarium. It was huge! I pointed out this aquarium to my husband and suggested we get this monster fish tank. His eyes looked like he was having a heart attack.

Veterans Day Parade Today.

Yep, today the city held The Veterans Parade.
Local radio station said happy Veterans Day today and mail wouldn't be delivered. What? The Post Office is now getting 2 days off for Veterans Day? The real day and postponed day? The radio station went down a full list of offices that would be closed today. I would be more impressed to find out these Federal and State offices were actually open on weekends.

The highlight is small private planes did the missing man formation. That was really cool to see them.

Mustangs cars seem to be the favored vehicle to drive in a parade. From 1966 to present.

Since my son has been in every Veterans Day parade for the last 5 years, I asked him if this postponing to the weekend had more people coming to the parade. He thought there were less people this year. Today it was chilly so that might have played a factor in less people showing up for the parade.

Veteran Day Tribute

This one had my husband crying. As we were watching a group of Army Helicopters went over our house.

A big heart felt thank you to the Veterans.

B-24 Song

I had no idea what today's Veteran's Week Post was going to be. I was looking though some footage of the B-24's and B-17's when I came across this video called the B-24 Song.  I love the song.

Snails. I want snails.

Texans are interesting people. Texans do their best to get people to want things they declared they never want in their lives. It's a sport here.

For example. My best friend who was raised on a Texas ranch married a city slicker. He likes cats as long as the cats aren't residing at the same address as he is. They moved to her daddy ranch and built a house when he retired from work. He declared to her: No cats. She said that is fine. A couple of years of living on the ranch he discovered his electrical tools cords in the barn were chewed by rodents. Guess who begged for cats. Lots of cats.

His daughter wanted a horse when she was a little girl. No horses. Never. Nada. He told her when she can lift a bale of hay she could get a horse. He pointed to the big round bales. Well, years go by. He wants her to go the college he attended. She doesn't. He finds out about his old college has a Calvary. He tempts her to consider his college with buying a horse. He buys another horse to secure a serious consideration with she can bring the horses with her to college. Basically it is him saying, "I want horses".  I finally called them up to find out if he is sending horses to college too. No. But he is now taking care of horses while she is attending college.

When I purchased my aquarium plants, hitchhiker snail eggs were on them. These snails multiply like crazy. Well, I maintain one huge aquarium, one medium sized aquarium and one small aquarium. The plants are growing like crazy. The snails are happy but they don't eat the algae. My pleco in the large tank is huge so he keeps up with the algae in that tank. My little algae eaters in the medium tank can't keep up. The small tank has 2 big fish in it so adding another fish is out of the question. The big fish were in the huge tank but the fish are very territorial. I separated the 3 mated pairs. I read about nerite snails are supposed to eat green spot algae. Last thing I wanted is MORE snails and what am I saying, "I want snails." I ordered the nerite snails. My son made a ton of jokes about it. But these snails are the best window washers. This is great.. I don't have to scrape. These snails don't multiply in fresh water. Darn..
